Malaysians From All Walks of Life Stand to Benefit Greatly From 5G’s Deployment in the Country
A 5G network creates a solid foundation for governments to harness real-time, real-world data and craft policies fine-tuned to the needs of the rakyat. It’s also key to narrowing the digital divide between city dwellers and rural inhabitants. A solid 5G connectivity platform will deliver fibre-like internet speed access to 80% of the Malaysian population by 2024, making it key to achieving a fairer, more equal society.
5G technology will also support and enhance the delivery of government services such as healthcare, public transport, and education. The use of AI, cloud services, edge computing technologies, low-cost sensors, and more will improve the day-to-day experiences of Malaysians, ultimately making life safer and more efficient.
The introduction of 5G in Malaysia will supercharge our socio-economic landscape in ways never seen before, creating over 100,000 new jobs across industries and generating up to RM100 billion in GDP uplift. Digital Nasional Berhad alone is expected to bring more than 1,000 jobs for locals to support the 5G rollout in in the country.
Malaysian vendors will also benefit from RM7.9 billion or 82% of the RM9.6 billion total cost of implementing the 5G network and infrastructure across the country. In addition, the Malaysian government via MCMC is expected to receive approximately RM1 billion in fees for apparatus assignment.
Knowledge building programmes within industries, academia, and government will cultivate a tech-savvy society to accelerate our growth towards achieving developed country status. Our cities will get smarter and everyday experiences like the morning commute to work or paying for groceries will be enhanced to give top-tier convenience and accessibility.
