MELAKA, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The 5G network coverage rate in Melaka is expected to reach 55.2 per cent by the end of December compared to 46 per cent currently, said State Education and Technology Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.
He said until Nov 15, a total of 32 out of 59 locations in Melaka Tengah district has access to 5G services under phase one of the Melaka 5G Implementation Plan.
Rais said the locations involved an area with a high population density including the state constituencies of Paya Rumput and Duyong.
"In total, 133 locations around Melaka have been identified to receive 5G coverage in stages in two phases. For phase one, a total of 59 locations in the Melaka Tengah district will receive 5G network access.
“The remaining 74 locations in the Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah districts are expected to receive the coverage in stages by the end of next year," he said after the soft launch of the 5G@Melaka and a walkabout programmes in Taman Krubong Jaya here today.
Rais said Melaka was one of the first states in Malaysia, especially in the southern zone, to receive widespread 5G coverage, through the planning and development of infrastructure by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) in collaboration with Communications and Multimedia Ministry (K-KOMM), Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn Bhd and telecommunication companies.
