KUALA LUMPUR — Oct. 26, 2023:

The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) has announced that our country’s current median 5G speed is at 485.25Mbps. As such makes it the fastest among Southeast Asian countries and the third fastest globally.

Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil elaborated that the rankings are based on the latest results from Ookla’s Spedtest Intelligence data for the 3rd quarter of 2023. As reported by Bernama, Fahmi lauded the results, saying that it was a “testament to the quality and integrity of the world-class 5G network developed by DNB,”.

He further revealed that as of the end of September, the 5G adoption rate in our country was at 7.4 per cent. In other words, approximately 2.5 million mobile users are subscribed to the 5G network in Malaysia.

The KKD Minister stressed that since the start of the 5G rollout two years ago, the focus has been on consumer adoption so that enterprises would have access to a growing customer base. He said that it is critical that 5G represents the foundation for the imminent technological and industrial revolution, accelerating adoption amongst both consumers and enterprises now.
