SHAH ALAM, 20 Nov (Selangor Journal) -- The state government, in collaboration with Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is committed to achieving 100 per cent 5G network coverage across Selangor by 2025.

State executive councillor for innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said at present, 5G network coverage in urban areas has reached 90 per cent, while coverage in more rural districts like Hulu Selangor and Sabak Bernam is below 80 per cent.

“Our goal for 2023 is 96.3 per cent and to date, we have achieved 94.3 per cent,” he said in a press conference at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here, today.

“Selangor will work closely with MCMC to guarantee 5G network coverage at 100 per cent by 2025. This is in line with the Selangor government’s aim of becoming a smart state.”

On the same note, Fahmi said 4G high-speed internet in Selangor will be upgraded to 100 megabits per second (Mbps) on average by 2025 compared to the current 47 Mbps.

In September, Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching said 5,724 sites across the country have been developed by Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and equipped with 5G coverage as of August 31, comprising 68.8 per cent coverage of populated areas.

She said the implementation of 5G services is actively being carried out nationwide by DNB.
