Celcom and Digi announced the signing of the 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad, shortly after Telekom Malaysia and U Mobile. The agreement will allow both telcos to offer commercial 5G services to their consumers very soon.

Similar to Telekom Malaysia, both Celcom and Digi will access DNB’s 5G network for a period of 10 years. Under the agreement, there will be no charges incurred until 31st December 2022.

According to Celcom, the DNB’s Reference Access Offer published on the DNB website sets out the salient terms and conditions subject to which network facilities and network services will be provided by DNB to Celcom. The RAO may be updated or replaced from time to time in which case the Agreement will be governed by and incorporate the terms and conditions of the RAO published on the DNB Website. At the moment, the RAO published on DNB’s website is still showing the old wholesale rate of RM30,000 per Gbps per month.

Celcom said it strives to serve its customers with the latest technology, and the Agreement will enable Celcom to provide 5G services to its customers. Celcom has revealed that customers on selected postpaid and prepaid plans can enjoy 5G services starting tomorrow, 1st November.

Both Celcom and Digi have recently signed their Share Subscription Agreements (SSA) with DNB for a 12.5% equity stake each. After the Celcom-Digi merger is completed, the new entity will own a total of 25% stake, making them the second biggest stakeholder after the Ministry of Finance which holds a 35% stake and a golden share.

With the latest developments, there are now a total of 5 telcos including YTL Communications having access to the national 5G network. Unifi Mobile customers can start enjoying unlimited 5G starting today from RM35/month. Meanwhile, U Mobile has announced that customers on selected plans can enjoy access to 5G starting this Thursday, 3rd November.
